Juan Donovan first came to national attention with Jamal Roberts as the legendary Baltimore production team Darkroom Productions when they made the infamous 2005 Hamsterdam Mixtape. Darkroom's production skills and roots in Baltimore hip-hop culture led to a multi-season collaboration with HBO's The Wire. In the years since, Donovan has produced hundreds of original tracks in many genres and styles.

In 2021 Xenotone is partnering with Juan Donovan to represent his music for licensing to film and television as part of the Xenotone Music Licensing Collection.
